Mission

Studio COO/ is a contemporary ceramics studio where artists and designers can retreat to research, create, and experiment. Located in a bright, open space in Merelbeke, near Ghent, Studio COO/ offers a place to step away from the everyday and fully focus on the process of making.

Our philosophy is rooted in attentiveness, craftsmanship, and artistic depth. The residency aims to be a safe space to develop new ideas, take risks, and push personal boundaries. The emphasis lies on research and process, rather than immediate results. Exchange with the environment, fellow artists, and the wider art community is encouraged.

Regular informal meetings are organized with ceramists, curators, and collectors. At the end of the residency, if desired, the work can be shared through an open studio, lecture, or small presentation.

For whom

Studio COO/ is open to professional artists, ceramists, designers, writers, and researchers who work with clay and related media. Both those seeking silence and concentration, and those preferring dialogue and collaboration, will find the space to grow here.

The residency is aimed at artists who want to immerse themselves in the process, with respect for material and environment, and who are curious about the dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.

Functioning

Applications are welcome throughout the year. Selection is based on portfolio, motivation, and alignment with the philosophy of Studio COO/.

We look for makers who are open to experimentation, deepening their practice, and the exchange that a residency context can offer.

During the residency, the studio is a workspace focused on research and the development of one’s own artistic trajectory. There is room for individual guidance and peer feedback concerning ceramics.

Duration and dates

Residencies last a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 3 months. Start and end dates are arranged in consultation to ensure a calm and focused atmosphere in the studio and to foster exchange among residents.
